Higher Grants for eligible first-time buyers
If you have recently purchased your first home, you may qualify for a higher grant amount for attic insulation under the BEH scheme. This special support is designed to help first-time buyers improve their home’s energy efficiency sooner, even if they cannot undertake a full retrofit immediately.
To qualify for this higher Attic Grant:
- You must be a first-time buyer of an existing home built and occupied on or before 31 December 2010.
- You must have purchased the property on or after 1 January 2025.
- If you qualify, the higher Grant amount will automatically apply to your attic insulation measure.
- As part of your online application process, you will be required to declare that you are an eligible first-time buyer and your application may be subject to verification audits.
- Please note the higher grant for first-time buyers is only applicable to the attic insulation measure.
Before you apply
Decide how to manage the upgrades
You can either:
- Apply yourself. You’ll apply for the grant and manage the upgrade using a registered contractor. The grant is paid directly to the applicant once the works are completed.
- Have a One Stop Shop manage the upgrade. The One Stop Shop applies for the grant on your behalf and looks after the upgrade from start to finish. With this route, the grant is deducted upfront from the cost you pay the One Stop Shop.
